WI-PIE SEMINAR

I attended a seminar called WI-PIE – “Work Improvement – Program for Improving Efficiency” last December 26, 2006…The speaker was Mr. Jose Edward Cunanan…and the sponsor organization for the seminar was CFIF…Cebu Furniture Industry Foundation…It was held at the Rajah Park Hotel in Fuente Osmena Cebu City...there were only 12 participants and It was a one-day affair and generally the seminar was good although there were so many concepts that was discussed…the speaker was a Human Resources Organization Development Consultant although his inclination was driven by his education and training in Industrial Engineering…while my forte is also in HROD but I’m more inclined with Industrial Psychology although there is a similarity among the two disciplines…there is also a marked contrast such as that I.E. basically deals with Work Study and Method study…related to time motion studies….process engineering…while Industrial psychology deals with psycho-social concepts of motivation…behavior modification…performance metrics… I could tell that the speaker was conducting the seminar for the 1st time as I could clearly notice that he was not keeping time on his topics…and when a participant would ask him a question he would delve on the matter too much that along the later part of his seminar he was already skipping topics…which is not a good sign…I also notice that his power point presentation is mostly words…no graphical presentation of ideas…this makes the material less interesting because of the lack of visual cues…my experience is power point presentations is that your presentation is as good as the graphical cartoons or pictures that you include in your presentation…My vast experience in conducting power point presentations is very good compared with the pitfalls that I used to experience when seminars are conducted…and these raised my beliefs that my Training and seminar skills are still on top of the line...
